ARTHUR music Rec
ARTHUR is an experimental(?) artist with songs such as “Woof Woof” and “I’m Too Good”, that blend strange uncomfortable sounding lyrics and synthesizers that sound off. It feels like the song is choking on it’s own sound/ I can only describe it in poetic language because it is very hard for me to describe exactly what it is that makes it sound so good to me. Feeling is the best I can use to describe it because it feels so liminal. It feels like it’s between being bad music and that being the point of it, that uncertainty I feel for what it was meaning to do is both the bad and good parts of the music. If it is intentional, then it is wonderful at doing what it is, it feels like he’s about to break down. You can see this in the lyrics.
“So self aware, I intend to die this way[line break] There is nothing that anyone can change”
is such a heartbreaking line. The singer is unwell, he sings about comparing himself to a dog, a needy dog, but has given up on getting better.
“I want to hurt myself, I want to leave [Line break]‘Cause everybody wants to slaughter me,”
fits the way the instruments and vocals collide, the song slowly falls apart, ripping at the seams as the singer is. I describe it as a melt down, it sounds like a melt down. It sounds like someone who is not doing well, and it feels intentional. My one gripe with the music is how the line between the music sounding good while sounding ‘ugly’ is, it is very hard to make a song that is both experimental and sounding good at the same time. It reflects the lyrics, it reflects the themes of the songs, but it is a very particular taste. Sometimes, I don’t know exactly why, but the vocals clash with the instruments too much, but that is few and far between. Either way I really like ARTHUR and if you like more experimental stuff, I recommend it.
